CragRats Theatre
CragRats approached Chris James and asked if we could help with their new Studio Theatre in Holmfirth. The theatre had recently been redesigned and required new curtains.
The Brief
As the building has public access, CragRats required flameproof curtains. The curtains also needed to be hard wearing, serviceable, long lasting, attractive and to provide soundproofing against external noise. Curtain rails were also required and needed to be easy to use, strong, long lasting and low maintenance.
The Options
We advised CragRats that they would need inherently flame retardant fabric, which remains flame proof regardless of the number of times it is cleaned. For soundproofing, we recommended a heavyweight twill type fabric, as it would deaden any external noise. The twill type fabric we proposed to CragRats for their new stage was available in various colours, it is flameproof, strong, hard wearing, serviceable and looks good even though it is plain. We recommended aluminium rails that are renowned for there low maintenance flexibility and strength.
The Site Survey
After an initial consultation with the directors of CragRats we visited the theatre in Holmfirth in order to undertake a site survey. The areas that needed sound proofing were an external wall and a wall adjoining a bar belonging to the Theatre.
We quickly realised that we would have a problem with the curtain rails that we had recommended as they came supplied in white and the stage and everything on and around it needed to be black so that no other light source was visible.
During a site survey we accurately work out how long it will take to complete the fitting so that the customer can plan around the necessary down time.
The Solution
The fabric that had been initially recommended was suitable for both the flameproof and soundproofing requirements and the problem of the white rails could easily be over come by re-anodising them black before fitting.
The Quotation
A site survey enabled us to assess CragRats situation in more detail, allowing us to provide a more accurate quote with various options. Several different fabrics and rails and fittings were detailed within the quote so that CragRats could compare prices and suitability.
The Installation
Once a suitable time had been arranged to fit the curtains, our team of fitters arrived on site to undertake the job within a specified time scale. The first step was to clear the area as much as possible. The following two days were spent on fitting the rails and hanging the curtains.
Once the job was completed the site was cleaned and everything that had been moved was put back in its place. The old rails were removed and disposed of on behalf of CragRats. Before our team left the site CragRats inspected the site to approve all fittings, hangings and cleaning.
Feedback
CragRats were extremely pleased with the work we had undertaken and were especially pleased that it had been achieved with such professionalism and within the specified time period.
